SwingSpeed360 Post #1

Doc Edgerton and Bobby Jones.

What an inspiration, the inventor of strobe light photographing the
greatest golfer of the age.

This would be Harold Eugene “Doc” Edgerton photographing
Bobby Jones, 1938.

As my golf swing project continues so does my interest in the master
photographer  “Doc” Edgerton.

My swing images are inspired by the 1938 photo series
Doc produced with Bobby Jones. Doc also photographed other golfers, but
I’m especially interested in the Jones images.

Through the generosity of Massachusetts Institute of Technology , MIT , I
have been able to review Edgerton’s notebooks and documents relating to his
work.I have  learned allot from Docs note books and have incorporated many of his
techniques into my own photography. MIT digitized Docs notes and they are
available online for review.

Doc photographed Jones during the 6 month period when he was testing for
Spalding . According to Docs notes he was being paid $ 400.oo per month from
A.G. Spalding.

Doc spent most of his professional life as a Professor at MIT
inspiring students to explore and be creatively curious.

Photography can allow us small glimpses into the unseen world.
Through these observation we can draw our own conclusions, explore
new theories or just sit back and enjoy the splendor. Harold Eugene
“Doc” Egerton’s contributions continue to allow us to pursue
all of the above.
