Stroboscopic Lighting

Stroboscopic light

Stroboscopic lights are specially calibrated strobe lights, capable of
flashing 10 to 50  times per second.

Short duration strobe light is the primary technique for producing high speed imagery .

I'm using light with a  strobe duration of 1/30000th of a  second.

Capture data

  • Capture data for Swing images  :
  • Strobe rate of 15 to 30 strobes per second.
  • Maximum strobe duration of 50 strobes for 5 seconds.
  • Minimum strobe duration 1/30000th of a  second.

History

  • Strobe lighting " flash " dates to the 1920's, when Harold Eugene "Doc" Edgerton explored the use of a stroboscope for the study of moving objects.
  • During Doc's time at MIT  he developed photography skills along with his scientific exploration of high speed lighting. He produced some of the most compelling photos the world had ever seen.
  • A historic collaboration between Doc and Bobby Jones happened in 1938, Producing the now famous photo series of Jones golf swing.
What an inspiration , the inventor of strobe lighting photographing the greatest golfer of the age.
